Love from a Distance began out of a desire to create something wonderful in a time of darkness. As COVID-19 took the lives and livelihoods of so many, classical sopranos Madeleine Lew and Karen Notovitz wanted to use their artistic voices to uplift the spirits of their communities and bring people together to experience an evening of love and light-hearted nostalgia.
They have assembled a team of eleven musicians from across the globe to curate a program brimming with music that has brought joy to their hearts during the unprecedented era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The repertoire featured in Love from a Distance is an ode to early Broadway and popular music from the 1940s - a favorite of Herman Lew, Madeleine’s grandfather who lost his life to COVID-19 in the spring of 2020.
This recital and each piece in it is a tribute to love itself - whether it be for a grandparent, a child, or a loved one.
This recital is in proud collaboration with the Medicinal Music Makers of USC who provide musical performances to the patients and healthcare workers in Keck USC Hospitals and facilities across Los Angeles.
100% of the proceeds from Love from a Distance will be divided equally between the Jewish Federation of the Desert's COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund and the Know Your Rights Camp COVID-19 Relief Fund. Both organizations are dedicated to serving communities disproportionately affected by the pandemic.
